Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

Photospecialist have a physical presence in the Netherlands and in Belgium, and a vertual presence on the net. Anyone have good or bad experience with this company to help me decide whether to place an order.
Thanks.

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

I have bought a few items from them when the pound/euro exchange rate was more favourable than it is now. Service was good. I had occasion to return one item and got a quibble free prompt refund. From my limited experience it seem to be a reliable retailer.

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

Thanks ayewing, good to know you've had favourable dealing with the company.

Even with the inferior exchange rate (I'm looking to purchase a Sekonic L-398A light meter) it's still cheaper than elsewhere. A number of weeks ago I placed an order with Ffordes and even though I had received email confirmation etc, the cheeky so and so's cancelled my order without even bothering to contact me. When I phoned them about non delivery I was informed the price had gone up and they weren't honouring the online order. That's the last time I'll darken their door. Absolutely disgusted with the behaviour.

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

I very recently bought a new camera bag from Photospecialist and had no problems at all - good price, prompt delivery. I haven't had to return anything so I can't comment on that aspect of the service, but I did quite a bit of research before I placed my order and they seem to be generally well regarded. I'd use them again.

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

I've been corresponding with the company via email. They've informed me that payment must be made by bank transfer prior to shipment, which I'm not too happy about because there's no consumer protection.

Has anyone used this company having paid by bank transfer prior to receiving the goods. As I see it its all down to trust, whether the customer has trust in the retailer.

Their website suggests otherwise;

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

Yes it does, thank you. In fact another member sent me a PM saying the same thing, so I've replied to photospecialist pasting their own advert and querying the earlier correspondence with their representative.

I used Paypal without any problem when I bought from them.

Re: Looking for heads up on Photospecialist

They're based physically in the Netherland and in Belgium according to the 'about us' blurb on their site, whether grey or not I have no idea.
I was interested in a Leica MP at about 500 cheaper than available in the uk. However the person I corresponded with by email said I would have to pay by bank transfer due to the amount in question. He (Photospecialist) lost the sale, and I purchased a second hand Leica M6 that Simon Bee helped locate for me.
