E520 Shutter Actuations

I came across another forum discussing shutter actuations. On there it speaks of the expected life, in terms of shutter actuations, of e3xx to e5xx series is around 50K, and the E1 and 3 around 150K.

Has anyone heard this?

I also found this interesting site.

Re: E520 Shutter Actuations

yes - the E1/E3 are listed in their specs and the others are an indicative figure I believe.

there doesn't appear to be a case of them all failing at these levels at all, in fact the only catastrophic failure I have become aware of were E3's at low levels that were repaired in warranty quickly be Olympus.

Basically they are there to indicate what should be considered normal wear and tear given they are the key mechanical components.

How do I find the actuation number from a camera?

http://www.biofos.com/cornucop/hidden.html

The short instructions are:
1) Power on the camera
2) Open the CF door
3) Press OK and Menu at the same time
4) Press (in sequence) up, down, left, right, shutter-release, left
5) Press left once more to get to p. 2, # of shutter actuations are listed next to 'R'.

I have an E300, E510 and E520 and the above worked for me, though after you press the shutter release there may be a slightly different up down navigation.

Also, from memory, I think instead of Menu+OK, for the E300 it may have been Display '|>' +OK

I'm going out so haven't had time to check, but the instructions are at the above site.

Regards

Graydon
