Wink Sod's laws of the universe

Law of Mechanical Repair: After your hands become coated with grease your nose will begin to itch or you'll have to urinate.

Law of the Workshop: Any tool, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner.

Law of Probability:
The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act.

Law of the Telephone: When you dial a wrong number, you never get a busy signal.

Law of the Alibi: If you tell the boss you were late for work because you had a flat tyre, the very next morning you will have a flat tyre.

Variation Law: If you change lines (or traffic lanes), the one you were in will start to move faster than the one you are in now. Works every time!

Bath Theorem: When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings.

Law of Close Encounters: The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with.

Law of the Result: When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will.

Law of Biomechanics: The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach.

Theatre Rule: At any event, the people whose seats are furthest from the aisle arrive last.

Law of Coffee: As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold.

Murphy's Law of Lockers: If there are only two people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers.

Law of Location: No matter where you go, there you are.

Law of Logical Argument: Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.

Brown's Law: If the shoe fits, it's ugly.

Oliver's Law: A closed mouth gathers no feet.

Wally's Law: As soon as you find a product that you really like, they will stop making it.

Re: Sod's laws of the universe

Wally's Law has a corollary: Dulux' Law. Once I chose a colour for the internal woodwork in my house, they discontinued the entire range. Then they discontinued the external colour too. Now I have to get paint specially mixed which costs half as much again and is seldom an exact match .

Re: Sod's laws of the universe

Precisely. My battery charger for the EM10 turned up less than 24 hours after the arrival of the Ex-Pro replacement. The annoying thing was that after an exhaustive man-search, the wife found it when she wasn't even looking.

Re: Sod's laws of the universe

There also seems to be an unwritten law that within a week of you disposing of an item that has sat on a shelf unused for over 20 years, there will suddenly become an urgent need for it.

Or when you've purchased a replacement.

In our house it goes like this.

One of us, usually me is busy and cannot find the left handed gromit extractor* no matter how hard I look. I've looked where I last used it, where I may have put it and then everywhere in the room/garage/shed/garden/entire house where it could possibly be. In desperation I ask Lady Byegad to help. She puts down what she was doing and comes from the furthest reaches of Byegad Towers to look.
As she walks through the door it magically appears right where I first looked.

This isn't a one off experience, more routine for any job undertaken, and thankfully works, very occasionally, the other way around with me arriving to hear 'There it is!'

* For left handed gromit extractor insert any tool, piece of equipment and occasionally large item too big to be overlooked.

Re: Sod's laws of the universe

The Law of Remote Disbelief. When you finally connect your PC for a remote repair the issue has disappeared.

After weeks of error messages and freezes and several unsuccessful reinstallations, guided via an online Chat, I got a remote session booked with the software supplier. The plugin had been tried daily and never worked.

He asked me to launch my PhotoShop. He loaded an image I had worked on earlier today and used the Plug-in. It ran like it hadn't for weeks. I asked what he had done and it was nothing. I then tried other images. No problem.

The plugin is now working.

There is a remaining issue of the display being slightly obscured on the right side. This applies to two plugins reinstalled in Windows 10, having run OK in W7, with any reinstallments working well prior to the upgrade. They admit the software needs updating for W10.
