Re: Fancy a fast standard lens?

Yes there's now no shortage of ultrafast m4/3 lenses, although many are MF. Curious that this one apparently won't work on some bodies, including the E-M5 mkI.

Performance wide-open will be key, but the 11 leaf aperture might give good bokeh.

That link also illustrates why I mostly stopped following threads on dpreview - the amount of low-level trolling just gets too exhausting!

Re: Fancy a fast standard lens?

When I shot film in the 60s and 70s, I could only afford an f1.8 lens. The photographic department where I worked had a Nikon F system with an f1.4 lens. They never used it wide open, as it was soft. In fact, the wisdom of the day was that fast lenses were only for focussing (manually) in poor light and that nobody used them wide open if they could help it.

I'm not sure what I would want an f0.95 lens for - it would probably be soft wide open and have an unusuably shallow DOF.

Re: Fancy a fast standard lens?

I would not want either but I suppose there are people who would crave that very shallow DOF.

It will have to be something really special to supplant my PanLeica 25mm f1.4

Re: Fancy a fast standard lens?

The various fast manual focus primes are the only reason to get a m4/3 body as far as I'm concerned.
