Some interesting Micro Images

Slide show on the BBC site showing micro images that appear to have been created using Olympus equipment but not E-System me thinks.

Is this the profitable side of the business?

Re: Some interesting Micro Images

Olympus Medical IS the most profitable division of Olympus. Every hospital in the UK uses their imaging and diagnostic equipment and it even outsells Philips Medical division equipment.
Interesting to see the results shown on the BBC Health website though.
Regards,
Andy.

Oh yes, the Olympus medical imaging business is the big money spinner. While Olympus consumer division (which includes cameras) has made big profits in the past, it's not at the moment, but then hardly anyone is making money in the camera sector.

Re: Some interesting Micro Images

I have watched the clip - the Olympus related stuff was using an endoscope on a patient.

Re: Some interesting Micro Images

I worked (nearly 30 years ago) for the Company that originally introduced Olympus medical to the UK.

Their endoscopes & microscopes were not certified to be used in Europe & I sorted the whole thing out at this end, working & advising the designers & engineers in Japan.

As a thank you, Olympus gave me a full kit (OM 4ti & lenses) which was worth more than 1K at the time. Bearing in mind my basic salary was about 3000, this was very generous.

Hence the soft spot I have for Oly.

Some stuff is still in use the 50mm f2 Macro is still my favourite lens.
