No trip to the Farne Islands.
That's a real shame.
A very similar thing happened to me 10 years ago at exactly this time of year when we were on holiday near Embleton. There was a strong NE wind blowing all week and the Farne Island boats couldn't sail. Luckily for us the weather broke on our last day and I was able to make the trip.
It really is worth seeing - so I hope you will be able to return some time and get to visit the Farnes.

With an 'Auld Gits Railcard' on Wednesday you could travel King's Cross to Durham for 23.55, or 54.45 First Class with breakfast included.

Returning the same day it would be 13.85 Standard departing at 21.10 or 37.95 First Class on several services to include an evening meal.

If you are lucky/unlucky (depending on your viewpoint) you could try one of the new Azuma trains built by Hitachi in Newton Aycliffe.

Don't be deceived. Whatever you may have heard from questionable sources elsewhere there is no need to sit on the floor in the vestibules on the East Coast Main Line. And if you book in advance the fares are very reasonable.
