You're not alone Dave. A camera club friend of mine did the same and it was only when he bought it to the club one evening that we realised what the problem was.

The manual and general information on this from Olympus is poor so it's hardly surprising. I even emailed Oly to confirm it was a Canon C1 format and they just said to buy the expensive Oly cable release which I was not impressed with.

I'm sure there are and will be many more out there who fall into this trap.

I wish you hadn't asked that question but I was trying to put the cable into the mic socket and the headphone socket.
I should have tried opening the remote cable terminal cover but that would have meant looking at the pictures in the manual.

Yes Mack100, if I had looked at the picture I would not have given mine away to a c***n user and not have to wait for a delivery on another.

Re: Remote shutter release.

Like many others I have a hoard of old bits and pieces that "might come in useful sometime". I was finally justified in this when I found that my old Pentax wired and wireless shutter releases work very well with my OM-D E-M1MkII.

Re: Remote shutter release.

After reading all these posts, I just can't understand why people don't use the Olympus app as a remote control from a smart phone - and it's free!

It's OK, but in summary: it runs your phone battery down, it's not 100% reliable in connecting and maintaining a connection (in my experience, and it always fails just at the critical moment as the dawn light is perfect!), and it's much less easy to use in cold and wet conditions since you have to take your gloves off to use the phone screen (or, at least, take your fingers out of your mittens.

The Canon wired remote is worth getting to avoid these issues, at a very fair price IMHO.

Re: Remote shutter release.

Reviving an old thread, but I'm going to need a wireless remote for an EM mk2 at some stage. Has anyone got one, and if so can you share a link please?
I'd be very happy with a cheap clone rather than an all singing one. All I need is shutter release. I know there is an app, but when I'm on holiday I refuse to take a phone with me..

Re: Remote shutter release.

Do you have any of the other Olympus camera? Do you have the wired remote for it?

IF not, then those that work on Canon should work. Think from the previous page, RS-60E should work. Not that Expensive from ebay.

Re: Remote shutter release.

I've been using the Hama DCCS release very successfully with my Lumix GX7 O-M1 and Pen F, but it didn't work with my new O-M1 MkII So I bought an official Olympus wired remote only to find out from this thread that all I needed was the Canon CA-1 connector lead for it!

Wex stock them here: https://www.wexphotovideo.com/hama-d...ector-1528773/

Alternatively Hahnel also make a similar release but with both Olympus connectors included.

I have something similar to this which I hacked to work with the EM1mk2

Same wiring as described in the 1st page.
