EM-1 x2 DTC any good?

Was wondering how this would work so did a few quick hand held leaf shots. Not bad for a kit lens and jpgs but I can't wait to get the adaptor so I can try my 4/3s glass.

That is interesting Phill. It looks very promising. I will have to try that with the 50-200 SWD when my adapter arrives. I have assigned it to the One Touch WB button for the time being.

The dtc on my epl5 is great if you only have one lens with you.

Digital Tele-Converter. Zoom is digitally increased by about 2x.

Very impressed. I'd be happy with that quality.

Thankee!

Actually - should have guessed from the context. More coffee needed...

Nice & sharp. I think I'll also set dtc to a function button when I eventually receive mine.
Thanks.

Re: EM-1 x2 DTC any good?

I've been trying to work it out, but my brain gives up. Does using DTC effectively halve sensor size?

Re: EM-1 x2 DTC any good?

What's the point, for still photography, at least? As far as I can figure out, it's just cropping and then (perhaps) rescaling up to the original size. Much better to do this kind of thing on your computer.

I say "perhaps" because I've been unable to work out from the E-M1 manual whether the crop is resized upwards or not (and I don't yet have a camera with this feature to experiment).

It has a role for video, where resolutions are a lot lower anyway, of course.

I think that there is more going on than you think but I don't know what. I wish just it did with Raw files rather than just jpegs

Maybe you're right... but nothing I've read or been able to find suggests otherwise. In fact, the E-M1 manual (p100) specifically equates Digital Teleconverter with digital zoom.

There's also a discussion on dpreview.com about DTC on the E-M5 that appears to conclude it's just a crop and rescale http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/42038635.

Re: EM-1 x2 DTC any good?

I admit I don't know how it works either but it does seem quite useful as it doesn't seem to degrade the image quality appreciably. I was just trying it to see if it was something I'd ever use and I proved to myself it is. Probably not that often but I will use it. Assigning a button to it is a good idea hadn't thought of that.

Re: EM-1 x2 DTC any good?

As long as the DTC is useful and gives acceptable quality, what's not to like about it? I have assigned one of the zoom buttons on my epl5 to this feature.
