Graffiti

Anyone else find some graffiti attractive and creative? Saw this in an ally in Chichester. Oddly interesting.

Re: Graffiti

I like your stick people.

I depends, the 'pixel' image at the top is probably by the French street artist Invader
I like it and it's fun to spot his work in other cities.
Having seen some Banksy in situ when he started out there is genuine humour and artistic intent.

The "tag" at the bottom of the picture is just visual garbage!

A less sophisticated attempt here in Gloucester but fun to see!

Re: Graffiti

Big difference between 'street art' and 'signature garbage'.
The stuff above is great. The 'I must be seen' stuff is 'merde'.
I have often thought that the perpetrators of the latter, if they were ever caught, should have the second finger on their right/left hand amputated.

Re: Graffiti

I agree with ISO on street art and tagging. I particularly like the street art if it shows a sense of humour, especially a subversive one (isn't all street art subversive?). Over the last few years some clever soul, going by the tag Pyke, has been sticking up the most intricately characitured fish around my local town. I snapped many of them and there must be near on a hundred of them, all different. A few years ago they new ones went up regularly but they don't go up very often any more. Sadly all the photos I took were taken on my phone so not really permissible on this forum.

I did take some graffiti shots on my Dad's OM-10 when I first got into photography. Perhaps I'll dig them out and scan them.

Re: Graffiti

Yeah Willom - go for the fish - as JTHM says we get a lot of phone pics posted.

Re: Graffiti

Sorry for the delay, it was a busy weekend but here is a small selection of these amazing fish:

This last one is quite rare as it faces to the right (I only ever found two or three in that orientation). I haven't counted but there have easily been over a hundred individual fish over the years. As I said in my earlier post I always have my eyes open for more but, sadly, they are now few and far between.

The last I really saw of this artist (and that is definitely what this person is) was a collection of six flies which inevitably appeared around the poster in the window:

.

I'll try to dig out and scan my older photos of graffiti over the next weekend.

Will
