Fireworks Night images...

Hey all

Not long back from my 1st fireworks job - have only processed the fireworks images and none as yet from the crowd, will do these tomorrow morning.

Here's a few samples from this evening, which though I am not ecstatic about them, I am relatively happy with them considering I hadn't shot fireworks at all prior to this evening.

Remainder of gallery is here:

Hope you like, feedback most welcome.

"If you'd like to purchase, contact.."

Would be a more pleasing ad-line.

Nice shots though, if you ignore the wording.

Hi John, I think these are very good for a first attempt. You've managed to retain some colour, which is often a problem.

I'd like to see the exif data, but there doesn't seem to be any? Looked in the gallery - none there too.

Ian

Re: Fireworks Night images...

Thanks Ian - there's still an issue with the LRMogrify and Zenfolio plugins when working togther Ian. I use the PRMogrify to add the watermark, and obviously the Zenfolio plugin to upload the images directly from Lightroom to my Zenfolio gallery. I have reported this to both the authors and it's in their hands I guess.

If I simply upload the images without using LRMogrify, then the EXIF is intact.

For all the shots, the info is E-510, f8, 4 second exposure, ISO100

Re: Fireworks Night images...

Again, this is in line with (if not actually?) the camera's 'fireworks' mode settings, which work pretty well - is the conclusion!

Yep - spot on Makonde. I had the E-510 on the tripod whilst I carried my E-3 around for the people shots (which are also up on the gallery now!)

Re: Fireworks Night images...

Hi John,

Just looked at your gallery - job well done! May I just ask, what flash did you use for the crowd shots and what settings?

Cheers,

Re: Fireworks Night images...

Hiya John

Many thanks for the comments John.

I used the excellent Oly FL-50, with the flash in TTL-Auto mode, and the E-3 in 'A'. I have to say I did adjust some of the images in LR where the kids were quite close to me as these were quite bright - only a few though (2 or 3). I used the exposure and brightness adjustments to bring the levels down a tad or so.

I did take some of the people shots with no flash too, ISO1250 or ISO1600.

Gotta love the E-3, I have to say.

EDIT: I updated the images earlier today following a suggestion by Nick, and spotted just now that the links in the original post were broken. These are now sorted - apologies about that.

Thanks for the info, John.

BTW Your firework pictures are also pretty good, far better than anything I've managed so far. But if you want some inspiration have a look at this link to the gallery of Wolves, who regularly posts on FTU. They were taken at the 4th July celebrations this year and I rate this the best set of firework pictures I've ever seen! http://www.pbase.com/wolf_spirit/july4&page=all

Cheers,

Re: Fireworks Night images...

WOW - oh yes, I agree there John those are excellent images. I do see though that he managed to get a good distance away from the source fireworks and so could capture a lot more in the frame.

I guess I was a little too close, but I had to be there as I was firing off the E-510 remotely using my IR trigger release whilst taking shots of the crowd.

I wish I was ambidexterous! Sounds like you need a partner to help cover events such as this.
