Is your camera a fake?

I've just been watching a program about counterfeit goods. There was even an example of Tescos inadventantly selling cheap German plonk which was labled as a much more expesive French wine!

That got me thinking. Imagine you bought an E-5 which was really a Canon in disguise; if you didn't notice, you'd put the poor results down to your own ability as a photographer. It might only be when you sent the camera back to Olympus because the dust reduction wasn't working that the truth was revealed!

Re: Is your camera a fake?

I do recall hearing a story like this many moons ago about someone who bought a DSLR and found it wasn't working properly, sent it to be serviced and found the internals didn't match the body...

but I can't remember where I read/heard it so it could just be my twisted imagination!

Re: Is your camera a fake?

I am delighted with my Olimpis F-30. Once I had bought a phrase book to translate the menu it was quite easy to understand and I was making good progress until the AA battery gave up. I must admit, I was expecting more than 10 minutes from it. The only problem I have is where to source a DUD memory card as the stores I have tried so far don't appear to stock them. Strange! I am sure it will take some excellent photos when I have got my Zuiko lenses to fit. There must be something wrong with them as they seem to be slightly incompatible. I have sent a stern email to Olympus UK about this.

I saved 30 over the current high street prices (what a rip off they are) and the the company I bought it from was keen to use bank transfer to speed up the transaction. They advised me to give it a couple of weeks before checking that the money had been transferred successfully. I will check later to see if this has happened yet. I get rather sick of all the interfering nanny state do-gooders poking their noses in and trying to prevent us buying the genuine bargains which are to be found out there.

PS. Does anybody have a contact address for Olimpis International Marketing?

Ron
