Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

I really like my XZ-1 but some of the RAW files are a real pain to process in PS6.

The JPEG files have a completely different colour temperature etc to the RAW files.

Here is a JPEG SOOC

Here is a RAW file with a minimal processing just controoling teh highlights and sharpening really

I find it hard to get the WB right from these RAW files.

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

Do you use the road as your grey reference when processing RAW?

Ian on the RAW version has had no WB adjustment. I tried the WB tool it just makes it look worse even more green.

I would like to be able to get to a point near the Jpeg as a start point but I am struggling at times as selecting the presets is as bad.

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

Alf you have to remember that ofc jpegs have had a Olympus profile added which gives it it's look, where as your raw has just had the adobe standard profile applied.

LR5 now has the Olympus colour profiles available for the the mtf models not sure if it does for the Z1 has I do not have that camera.

Example a straight unadjusted raw with just the profile changed.

Adobe Standard Profile

Olympus Vivid Profile

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

I can't help on the processing but the OOC Jpeg is much nice colour wise (and more natural) than the processed raw. It would be really nice if Olympus Viewer gave the WB setting that was chosen when on "auto".

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

I don't think this is a white balance issue - Paul is right, it's a colour/tone profile issue.

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

Thanks for that Paul but I don't have LR5 and I have not really got on that well with LR4 really so I stick with PS.

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

I found the solution to this other day as I needed to for my E-M1 and in the camera calibration tab if camera Vivid or Camera natural instead of Adobe RGB the colours were sorted instantly.

Re: Processing XZ-1 RAW files.

Yes, Adobe RGB is a wide gamut and only really expensive monitors can display this correctly. Many browsers don't display Adobe RGB JPEG images properly either. It's much safer to edit in sRGB although for very high quality requirements in a properly calibrated and managed workflow Adobe RGB will produce a better result, let's say for an exhibition print, for example.
