Re: Olympus OM-D E-M10 hands-on preview and image samples

Ross I applaud your choice to wait and admit I'm seriously considering getting rid of my E-M1 and going for a Stylus 1 as you did as an interim solution. In this case it's really my fault as I ordered the E-M1 very soon after it was announced. I even went to the event in London found out about the horizontal only af sites and deliberately tried it out. It didn't seem to be much of a problem at that time so didn't cancel my order. Obviously either I didn't do enough testing on the day or more likely wasn't prepared to acknowledge to myself how big an issue I was going to find it was for my particular type of shooting. Needless to say I'll be giving the Stylus 1 a really good test at the Photography show soon. As well as testing my E-M1 with some micro 4/3s lenses to see if that's the way to go.

I had ordered an E-M1 as well, but I had a bit of a fiery moderation to help change my mind. It was only the week before that 200 houses were lost & 100+ damaged by fire that had started nearby with a number of friends & acquaintances being affected & then it was another hot, windy dangerous day with some of the fire just over the next ridge to the north of us still being a risk, which was just before I was notified the E-M1 was available for pick up. I had my bags packed in case I had to go because of the risks, so it wasn't too hard to change my mind about getting it. After things had eased off I then had the Stylus 1 to tempt me & with some of the photography I was doing I thought it would probably serve me better than another body with a bag of lenses to still carry around. The E-M5 still gets used but the Stylus 1 fills another role beautifully for me.

This was the start of that fire that caused many some grief & scared many more of us & for me to forget about buying another camera body (at the time).

So, it wasn't me being strong & saying no, but more like "do I need more gear to try & carry away in a hurry".
