Re: Helping Hand

Excellent photos especially the Apostles. You must tell us why they have been given this name!

Hi David. Their name comes from the fact that they are usually found in a group of 12 or sometimes more, and are extremely supportive of each other. Like the Twelve Apostles.
Their behaviour is fabulous to watch. They interact all the time, chattering and grooming, and huddle together when perching. It is hilarious to observe them perching as they cuddle very closely together in a line, and if one jumps off, another jumps on to take its place. Found mainly in our inland areas.

Perhaps a little lighter in the body than a turkey Chevvy, but similar size.
Unfortunately these birds are becoming urban pests as they are great foragers and have discovered that rubbish dumps and sidewalk caves offer easy pickings.
It is such a shame.

Thanks Greg. The Apostle Birds are really the cutest things.
The Ibis can be pests on the ground, but when you see a large flock of them at sunset flying home to their rookery for the night, it is a grand sight.

Don't know about that Mark, but I love my E-520 to death. I think it may have to die before I consider an upgrade or a change.
