Re: Venice

These are fantastic images of a truly iconic place. Love your nights pics especially. The only time I was there it was a grey day and St Marks Square was flooded, still a lovely place though. Thanks for showing.

Re: Venice

I also have to compliment you on the two night shots, they are amazing. I would appreciate knowing your camera settings for them and I am sure that others would as well.

Re: Venice

Thanks for the kind words - both shots were with the PL 25, this lens with ibis is seriously impressive handheld in "blue light" conditions.

St Marks Sq, handheld:-
1/6th, ISO 200, F1.4

Canal, shot this holding the camera steady on a bridge (still need to buy a tripod!)
4 sec, ISO 200, F5.6

Both shot in raw and edited in lightroom 5.3

Re: Venice

So that's what Venice really looks like!

The only time I visited was an overnight transit from a company I was visiting further up into the Dolomites. It was the middle of Winter, freezing fog and Venice was flooded

Your pics make me want to go and have a proper look one day, thanks

I cannot recommend it enough - if your willing to take your chances with the weather you can get some very good value deals at the mo. We were really lucky, theoretically December should be one of the worst times of the year to visit with aqua alta and freezing weather. but although it was cold we had crystal clear conditions. (so clear you could see the snow capped dolomites from the san giorgio campanile!)

im hoping to visit the dolomites this summer - probably the alta badia area, but not sure yet.

Re: Venice

Your photos gave me some lovely memories. The time we were there we experienced St Mark's Square in flood too. No interest in photography then and we probably will never get back now, so the memories will have to do!
A truly iconic city.

Re: Venice

I have been to Venice twice. Would go back at the drop of a hat.

So much to see, every corner must have been photographed at some point. Well by me anyway.
The night shots are something I must do next visit.
