Nearest to me for seeing red kites is around Stamford / Rutland area.

Definitely like the second picture.

Thanks Mark, I was out in the back garden yesterday with the intention trying to bag a few Red Kite shots. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes you don't (more the latter for me)

Thanks Paul, I agree the 300 mm is lovely lens, I wish I'd taken off the MC-14 before taking the first shot though, it was just too close @420 mm
