Remainers voted to keep the status quo and have a really nice time , with the big EU corporates deciding what we do to satisfy their shareholders.

Brexiteers voted for an independent country that makes its own way in the world, and joins the 85% of the world that is growing.

What exactly have the EU done for our children - in real terms - ZIP, ZERO, NOTHING. Don't say the opportunity to travel and work in Europe - they could do that way before the EU was created. They can travel and work in most countries of the world if they get off their backsides and fill in a few visa applications. Why is that so hard for Remainers kids to do ?

Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Watching the Conservative Party conference I'm coming to the conclusion that the real winner on Brexit is the Labour Party. The Tory party is imploding over it. Not only are they deeply split, but the "one-nation" moderate Tories are being overrun by the swivel-eyed loons of the far right. Even with Corbyn in charge, Labour are looking more like a government that this lot. Boris's speech tomorrow should be a real fire-cracker I've ordered my popcorn already

Try going to work and live in the US. Try to export something to the US. Try to negotiate a free-trade agreement with the US. Now repeat for China. And India. And Japan. And Canada. Oh, and Europe when we've left and they hate us!

I didn't say I agree with Corbyn - just that right now the Tories are looking in a much worse state. Ask most people under 30 how they'd vote and I'd guess you'd find Corbyn's policies very popular. The Tories are not appealing to younger voters at all.

So why do most people under 30 (or even 40) feel so strongly about wanting to remain in the EU? This is a poll from Jan this year:

My son actually works in the US and he and his american wife, have recently bought a house there and are doing fine - thank you.

If you enter into a negotiation thinking you will fail then guess what - you will.

This we are inferior and cant cope mind set is just that, a mind set.

Free everything promises are really persuasive to the young.

Let's all go live in Venezuela, but ..... first just ask their young how it's going for them.
Oh, don't worry Hamas, The IRA, Russia will be our best friends, honest.

I worked in the US for three years. It took 3 months and about 5k in legal fees to get a visa. If I wanted to stay there it would have probably cost double that - unless I married an American and then maybe it would be easier.

Let's be serious - it's VERY, VERY hard to move to the US for work. The US is also a hard country to export to (just look at the litany of British car companies who have floundered, or British aircraft companies, or just about any British company you can think of). The same is true of China, Japan etc. They can (and will) screw us to the wall on trade negotiations because our market is small compared to theirs. To be effective you need to bring a bigger negotiating party to the table - something like a union of smaller countries that together can deliver greater leverage.

Agreed, but this generation are at the pointed end of an economic path that leaves them dispossessed. Massive student debt, impossible house prices, a sea of low-paid jobs, poor social mobility, ... What answers do the current Tory party have for this? I'm not necessarily saying that I'd vote Labour, but if the Tories want a future they can't just veer off to the right and ignore this stuff - because the up-coming electorate will vote them out.

So what raised the issue with your visa?

My son went as a research scientist in Biochemistry to Harvard without any legal fees. He worked for 3 years before he met his wife and now a further 5 years later they are both doing fine. and have bought their first house. At least in the US they reward effort, unlike here where we reward scroungers.

Did you not see the Hamas flags at the Labour conference, don't you listen to the news broadcasts.

Corbyn supports them all. He is such a nice chap.

The young cant see it I agree, but this is where experience is needed.
