Second hand FL50 prices.

Hi all,

We are just looking to get a FL50 flash gun mainly for our wedding shots.

I was just wondering how much does the FL50 go for second hand? We are on a tight budget so buying one new is out the question for the moment.

Cheers
Garrie

Probably around 200 - 220 judging from a quick search.

Re: Second hand FL50 prices.

ah no worries, I've had a search (always forget about the search function doh) and they seem to be going for anything from 160 - 190.

Managed to save 100 so only have a little more to go

Re: Second hand FL50 prices.

buy an e3 and get one free!

better still list the wedding as a forum meet and get the best coverage available for the price of a few drinks .....second thoughts that might cost more than the fl50.......

Re: Second hand FL50 prices.

Unless you're going to use it a lot, and need the TTL functionality, it's far from a necessity to use an Olympus flash. I've got two Nikon SB-28's, and when I use one of them on camera (E-1 and E-510) they work a treat in Auto mode.

You can pick these up on eBay from around 40 for an SB-24 up to around 80 for the SB-28. New dedicated flashguns are horribly overpriced in my opinon.

On the SB-28 do you need to enter the ISO and F value into it or can it pick it up from the camera? Does it emit a red pattern automatically to assist AF in dark conditions?

Sorry for the questions.

You do enter the F-stop and ISO as set on the camera (which takes seconds, and the LCD panel is illuminated), but then auto gives you what is normally a huge range to shoot within from that; I can say I've been more than happy with all my on camera flash shots with them - they can't assist with AF as the flash isn't dedicated, so the flash and camera don't 'talk' to each other as such.

I tend not to use them on camera very much, as it's the worst possible position for any flash, but the results still far outweighed my expectations of them, and they are extremely compact and well built. If it's only for ocassional use, a bit of a bargain in my opinion.

Re: Second hand FL50 prices.

Metz have an E-System compatible gun (a '44 something' IIRC) which has similar power to the FL50, but is about half the price.

I know of at least one E1 owner who uses one and is very happy with the results.

Metz also have some heftier units, such as the CL45 digital, (the big hand-held jobbie), which costs about the same as the FL50.

I believe the '44' and some of the bigger Metz units are Super FP compatible, and so can be used at any shutter speed, but the 45 cannot.

Re: Second hand FL50 prices.

Hi all

I just purchased a metz 48 AF-1 for 140 last week and it is equally as capable as my old FL 50, the only thing ive noticed it doesnt do automaticly is turn of when the body is turned of. I can live with that in view of the huge saving. It also has a wireless slave function compatible with the E420, E520 and E3 Great value
