Extend battery life? Battery replacements?

Since last weekend I am the proud owner of a brand new E-M1 to replace my E-30!. Very happy with the camera and the results. Didn't have too much issues in handling it until now. The only (minor) thing that is a bit disappointing is the battery life. This might be due to opening and scrolling through the menus many times to find the ideal set up and using the live-view option to see the results of my shooting.

I now switched off the live-view to save power but I wonder if there are other options which I can use to extend battery life. Any suggestions?

Although I might be able to take more pictures with one battery, I think I need at least a few spare ones. Does anybody has experience with other brands (Jupio)? On the internet I found some incredibly low prices for replacements. Are genuine Olympus batteries better? Any recommendations?

Thanks
Henk

Re: Extend battery life? Battery replacements?

I've got 2 Olympus and 2 ExPro batteries. The ExPro are pretty good, but they don't last as long as the official ones, but they are OK.

Re: Extend battery life? Battery replacements?

I have used Hahnel batteries for some years and I rate them as good as the Oly ones on performance and better on cost. I recently experienced a charging problem with a Hahnel battery under warranty and sent it for repair. They couldn't repair it so they sent me a replacement. Can't be bad can it?

Another vote for the exPro ones, particularly as you can use them in the Olympus charger as well. I also picked up their own brand dual channel charger as well, which seems to work fine.

Re: Extend battery life? Battery replacements?

I have had decent experiences with both Hahnel and exPro.

You can make some improvement by adjusting the time the camera and screen stay awake and show images taken, via the menu system, but the bottom line is that you need at least one and often 2 spare batteries for a full day's shooting. I got through a total of 5 batteries in 1 x M1 plus 1 x M5 at Snetterton race track a few Sundays ago.

ExPro again with charger, I use two olympus originals and two ExpPro but do not mix them.

My experience is that batteries seem to last longer when you've charged them a few times.
