Ah Lyn, from 'mistified' your image now materializes - but as for air travel I think I've missed the connection !

Ah ha ... now I see it as an airport terminal for what at first appeared to my untrained eye, a swimming pool !

Re: The Joy of Air Travel.

The caption should read "Welcome to my nightmare."

Just got back home to Ireland from a month in the USA myself . . . 22 hours in the air, then hotel overnight in Dublin, then 3 1/2 hours train to Killarney, then 1 1/2 hours bus to Cahersiveen, then 1/2 hour taxi to the cottage. All with main luggage bag @ 49.8 kg and backpack @ 11.8 kg.

Simply brutal. Plus going 8 hours in the "wrong" way through the timezones utterly destroys my internal clock . . . wide awake at midnight and begging for sleep at 2 in the afternoon . . .

Yeep.

John

Your first reply certainly mystified me Mark. I thought that trolley of yours had finally left the tracks!

Perhaps I should have had a clearer caption - the photo was taken at Changi Airport.

Yes John, I sympathise completely.
These long hauls are nearly beyond us now and take some determined fortitude to cope. However, I still love the atmosphere in an airport, and love watching the people coming and going and wondering what they are all about. Such a shame that the ratbag element with the terrorism threat have spoilt the joy of travel to an extent.

Chevvy - What a cruel thought!
I wonder what her response would have been if I had given her a gentle shake and asked her permission for a snap! I suspect it would have been me that got the snap!

Thanks for looking Ed. At 5.00am and not a "morning" person, I had some empathy with this traveller.
Singapore Airlines have just started a day service home to Adelaide as well as the much-loathed midnight flight. It was the first time we had done it,and despite an early morning start, it was so much better for the body clock. 7 hours from Singapore to Adelaide and you arrive home about 5.00pm, bed not far away, and feeling relatively as if all is normal.

Re: The Joy of Air Travel.

A beautiful catch Lyn. I know what you mean by the joys of it all as I've been making trips to the airport dropping off or picking up my travelling daughters. Talk about strange travel times, flying from Darwin to Sydney happens after midnight & arrives in the early hours back in Sydney. I thought it was odd.

Thanks Ross - I am glad you enjoyed it - couldn't resist taking her!
Airline schedules are the strangest things! I guess they have connecting flights to liaise with, especially from Darwin. We lucked out with this day flight from Singapore, I can recommend it highly. The plane was only 1/3rd full so we could stretch out in the middle seats and choose a window seat for the views, which were stunning over Australia.

Thought I recognised it! A lovely, clean, spacious airport with rather surly security guards! They would not, at first, accept that I was travelling without a mobile phone!

That's OK, there was a time I wouldn't have the internet at home, now look at me!
