Nantwich

Off to Nantwich tomorrow for four days, then to Preston and on to the lights at Blackpool. Any ideas of good locations, not too far?
Chester and Lyme Park are obvious but open for ideas.

Re: Nantwich

Bickerton Hill/Beeston Castle come to mind. Nantwich was my home town for years so there's probably others that will occur to me later.

Taken from the Maiden Castle area at Bickerton Hill;

Re: Nantwich

Was down in Tarporley for a couple of days last week.
The weather was Scottish.
Can recommend Beeston Castle if its a good day. Ellesmere is also good from past experience, for canal stuff, etc. Chester also has lots of possibilities and if you do go, the Park & Ride is good.
I once didn't do justice to a photograph of the shop in the tiny village of Knockin nearby. (Scottish joke)
I believe there is railway memorabilia stuff at Crewe and a little further east is Jodrell Bank which always looks spectacular.

Re: Nantwich

Hi Dave.

My partner comes from Kelsall and being artistic she suggests as well as the previous posts.

Delamere forest should be good at this time of year.

Chester Zoo.

Jodrell bank.

Tatton Park.

Hatchmere Lake

Olton park race track at Little Budworth, if there's a trackday or something going on thats if you're interested in motor sport i'll see whats on over your time there, Just remembered its the last round of British Super Bikes there Fri-Sun, but likely something's on earlier in the week so the best rider's are there and just down the road is Oulton Mill pool.

I hope you have nice trip anyway and if we can help you anymore let me know.

Bob

Re: Nantwich

Dave,

Further suggestions for Cheshire, depending on weather and/or opening times:

Bramall Hall
Little Moreton Hall
Nether Alderley - church, old school & mill
Marton Church - timber framed
Knutsford - Richard Watt's mad buildings
Astbury church - side walls aren't parallel, so seems longer than it is!
Tabley House - Palladian house by Carr of York
Macclesfield - Silk Mills museum - working jacquard looms (using sets of punched cards)

Have fun!

Andrew

Re: Nantwich

Ellesmere definitely some nice shots up there and a bit further west Whittington Castle, Gridley Brook Staircase locks on the canal, the canal in general, Wrenbury is a nice little place with a nice little pub, The sceret bunker of course may be worth a look too, that's just outside Nantwich...

Re: Nantwich

We could see it from Beeston Castle.
There is one up near Crail which is a visitor attraction.
