A walk in Snowdonia

Hi there everyone!

It has been quite a while since I have posted anything on the forum - not for any particular reason, just that I haven't really got around to it. To remedy that I have decided to put up some pictures from a little walk up Pen Yr Ole Wen, Carnedd Dafydd and Carnedd Llewlyn - I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

1. Sunrise over Tryfan through the clouds

2. Inversion 1 - climbing out of the valley I got above the cloud briefly.

3. Inversion 2 - quickly overwhelmed by the clouds rising off Llyn Ogwen, I climbed a little higher to take a second picture.

4. Looking across to Foel Goch (Dramatic tone filter)

5. Tryfan through the mist.

6. Pen Yr Ole Wen from the summit of Carnedd Dafydd.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Ralph.

Re: A walk in Snowdonia

Lovely atmospheric shots of one of my old stomping grounds.

Re: A walk in Snowdonia

Hi there John!

I had guessed that you would have been there before me! The weather report was for drizzle all day but my wife told me that "there is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes" (one of my favourite sayings) so I went anyway. I was extremely surprised and very happy to see the peaks free of cloud as I drove along the A55, and then to have the inversion with the clouds rising off the lakes just made my day! It did start to drizzle later in the day, but by then I'd got back down off the peaks and was walking back up the A5 to my car.

It's good to hear that you are back out and about taking pictures again by the way.

Cheers,

Ralph.

Fantastic shots. They capture the mood of Snowdonia perfectly. I really like the first and the last - definitely my favourites. I must get up there myself - it's been years since I have (in fact the last time was in a glider, but I guess that doesn't really count!).

You can never really predict what the weather is going to do in the mountains. I once had a holiday in the Lake District when the weather followed the same pattern every day - thick fog in the valleys up to about 2500 feet, above which there was blue sky and sunshine and the highest summits remained clear all day. We were constantly moving in and out of the mist as we traversed the long ridges and it was remarkable how the temperature changed so suddenly as we did so. In the campsite toilet block on the last day we overheard somebody lamenting that he hadn't climbed a hill all week because of the fog!

Re: A walk in Snowdonia

Hi there everyone!

Thanks for all your comments.

Paul - Thanks for your comments - the first is one of my favourites too, but my wife wasn't impressed at all. You really should make the effort to come up to Snowdonia - the mountains in winter are especially impressive.

John - I have now decided to stop second guessing the weather forecasts. My plan now is to pack EVERYTHING and go anyway!

OM-user - It really is worth the trip, even all the way from London town - thankfully I'm a lot closer. I hope to be back there soon so I'll post some more pictures if the weather permits.

Mrs T - Thank you for your comments - the last one is my wifes favourite too.

Cheers,

Ralph.
