Yep I have used less convenient things but now got my head round Dropbox. Here's the raw: https://www.dropbox.com/s/x6oqaamt8o...60890.ORF?dl=0

And the tiff from it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfbpjggk4a...60890.tif?dl=0

Re: And here is the image in question

Looking at 400% sky crops in the raw there is only noise, the artifacts are in the jpeg conversion.

Re: And here is the image in question

Good to know. Thanks for that. Was afraid something I was doing in processing was introducing artefacts between raw and Tiff. Tiff and Jpeg I would expect.

Re: And here is the image in question

Visible aberrations that you have somehow introduced in the processing. Spelt with e or i, but I'm more used to e.

As distinct from digital noise which you are not responsible for (but can minimise as some have explained here). Most usual artefacts are compression marks from jpeg conversion, but there are others and one answer above was helpful in differentiating between the two in mine.

The word means man-made.

Re: And here is the image in question

Man made in the sense of something I might have done to it in post processing. But it appears it wasn't, it was just noise in the darker areas. The most common artefacts (I must insist on the more usual spelling), are jpeg compression marks, but you can do all sorts of other things that lose quality, or introduce blemishes that were not in the raw file.
