Solved with an apology to Apple

To my amazement and annoyance certain keywords in my recent threads (including this) have been converted to hypertext to advertise Apple iPads.

In other words, my copyrighted images are being used without my agreement or permissions to advertise an Apple product.

Unless these ads are withdrawn from my posts forthwith, or I am appropriately compensated for this abuse, I must very reluctantly consider withdrawing from the forum altogether. Meanwhile I will not be posting any more images.

This is an Olympus forum and I have no issues at all with Olympus advertising. As it happens I was on the verge of switching to an Apple Retina Display laptop at the end of the financial year but will certainly not do so if I the issue remains.

Sorry Apple, your arrogant marketing just lost me.

Edit: I have just discovered that this entire site is now polluted with hypertext links to Apple Advertising and therefore I can not contribute further to this forum unless it is fixed.

Neither do I. However I have seen text on my iPod Touch converted to hyperlinks without any effort from me, so perhaps it's only so on the local Apple device. I don't think you can post a hyperlink on the forum without using the hyperlink button in the editor.

Why not post a screen capture showing the offending items.

Also see if the same event occurs if you view the forum without logging on to it.

Hi Mark, there is no advertising on the e-group apart from one Olympus-specific banner on the front page unless you are not logged, in which case there is a nag-ad to persuade newcomers to register and make the ad disappear.

I would guess that there is some kind of plug-in in your browser that you might have inadvertently installed that is doing what you are seeing but I just want to reiterate that it's nothing to do with us as site operators (at least not knowingly!) and we can't see what you describe from here.

A screen grab would be useful...

Ian

Well I'm damned sure it isn't Samsung.

This is what I'm seeing.

The cursor over hypertext generates an "You could Win an Apple iPad - just click here and fill out the form to see if you're eligible etc"

Re: An outrageous development by Apple

that's malware for sure, not sure how to get rid of it though. I had something similar but just formatted my HD and upgraded windows as I was due an upgrade anyway.

There are numerous tools about that may be able to sort it.

There's certainly nothing like this from Mark, or anyone, showing on my Mac using Safari.

Re: An outrageous development by Apple

It's almost certainly malware, I've had similar problems recently. If you look in your installed programs you may find something recently added that you didn't install - if so uninstall it. Alternatively, if you look in your browser settings you may find some plugins/add ons you haven't installed - disable/delete them. As a last resort, if you hover over the hypertext (or click on it if you want to risk it) you may get some indication of the site name - Google it and you'll find out how to get rid of it. I've had to go down all three routes this year - we all need to be aware of what extras are being installed when we download something - it's far too easy to click the "Next" button without checking what we're agreeing to.

Finally, it's not Apple doing this - it's someone running a competition to win (allegedly) an Apple product. Hope this helps.
