Old Man

The Old Man of Storr.

We had a fantastic week on the Isle of Skye last week. There is absolutely stunning scenery and wildlife at every turn.

As it was a fairly short visit and primarily a family holiday, I had limited camera time, so I made sure of getting some of the classic shots, and the old man is perhaps the classic image of the Isle. For good reason too, its a fantastic spot. This involved a 2am set off and just over a hours uphill hike in the dark to be in position for first light. The fact my teenage son came along with me made the morning quite special, a lovely memory, we even got sight of the distant green glow of the northern lights as we came out of the cottage!

This was one of the highlights of the week for me, bettered only by a boat trip to the Isle of Canna - I don't think you'd believe me if I told you what we saw that day!

Couldn't agree more it's a stunning scene. Definitely well worth the very early get up.

Ok then, here goes... We booked the trip knowing we'd see puffins and hoping for a dolphin or two if we were lucky...

We saw;

Red Deer
Porpoise
Puffins
3 golden eagles
A white tailed sea eagle
A pod of dolphins around the boat
A Minky whale
...and the great big cherry on top.... 2 killer whales!

The skipper of the boat had only seen Orca once before, in 12 years of running the trip!

I will never forget those few hours

Re: Old Man

Super shot Chris
Wow, that is some list, where did you take the boat from, it sounds like a worthwhile trip?

Re: Old Man

Thanks Iain,

It was out of Elgol, to Canna, by way of Soay on the way out and Rum on the way back.
Its about 90 minutes each way, and you disembark on Canna for an hour too.

Wow, that must be the best boat trip ever - certainly one you will always remember!
