Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

A short list
> New EM-1 firmware which enables IS to be applied to a function button. If like me you flip between tripod and hand held that would be a very desirable improvement

> As has been said before battery management and health indications - again I suspect that can be done via firmware

> Ability to name your MySets with something meaningful

>ability to download all you settings onto a PC to back them up and also so that you can change them from your PC as well. That is a PC, or tablet, access to all camera settings.

> an EM-1s with those improvement above but with the following changes to the existing body as well

* fully articulated rear screen - I miss this from my E3 SO MUCH. Pretty please with bells on.
* built in GPS so that it is integral to the camera
* easier access to the socket for plugging in external shutter releases etc. The existing arrangement is a bit fiddly and exposes all the other sockets as well
* tripod socket in the centre of the camera i.e. not off to one side
* better battery life to go with the better battery management s/w mentioned above and enable things like built in GPS
* a silver body option for those who want it

I could go on but then we are talking OMD EM-3

But..... it would be like going from the GH3 to the GH4 in size to do that too.

Mmmm - I agree it's a possibility but I'm working on the basis that it doesn't as that would be a backward step. My guess is that the only thing which may impact the size is the articulated screen to accommodate the hinge. I would have hoped though that something compact and robust could be engineered as it has been done many times before.

This assumes that the GPS is a couple of chips only and there is room to squeeze it in.

My idea for a EM-1s was an upgrade rather than a EM-3 which I would have different wish list for and a new body.

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

How about something simple; lens hoods and pouches with all lenses? An IS switch like E5 had

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

Firmware upgrade for current camera range so that...
all functions can be applied to all buttons
exposure compensation in M mode with auto ISO (deliberately not calling it Manual mode)
saving mysets to and from PC
tethering to PC

and from cloud cuckoo land... a pocketable PEN Mini. The flange sensor distance for MFT is a shade under 20mm I believe so make the camera 25mm thick at most (not 34 or 38mm) by moving everything bar the sensor sideways into a thick grip that fills most of the side of the camera. After all you are going to put the 14-42 EZ or a pancake prime on it so having something stick out the front is not going to make it less pocketable.

A sensor so the camera knows to switch off IS when on a tripod, and a user-configurable IS-Off when a certain shutter speed is reached.

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

A new E-M5 that plays catch up with the E-M1 and E-M10 for button ergonomics, silent shutter, wifi, focus peaking etc.
Oh and a "User SCP" while you are at it.

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

Can't think of anything really. It's my health that limits my photography now, rather than my equipment. My E-M5 does pretty much everything well, except birds in flight, but I can't do that now anyway.

I'd like to add a 9-18mm at some stage but that lens is already available, it's the finance that isn't.

The only new piece of kit I can think of that might help me in the mid to long term (i.e. when spare pennies are available) is an affordable medium-fast standard zoom in the 12-40mm, 14-45mm range with an f2.8/3.5 or f2.8/4 aperture. It doesn't need to be weather sealed, just keep the cost down.

Yes that would be good.

hec,
Built-in GPS would be welcome but given that GPS eats batteries I guess it is incompatible with wanting more images/battery charge.

It would be good to have some way of adjusting the IS configuration so that it doesn't always default to the slowest feasible shutter speed when using Aperture priority with auto-ISO (Hope this makes sense).

You can set a slowest shutter speed by adjusting the Slow Limit in the Custom Flash Menu. It works even when you are not using flash.

>Menu

>Gears

>'F' (Custom Flash)

>Slow Limit

>Set slow limit

>Use up/down arrows to select slowest shutter speed that you want the camera to select.

Obviously you cannot set a shutter speed faster than 1/250th second because this is primarily a flash function and that's the fastest sync speed on the E-M5, but if you need to maintain a shutter speed faster than this then Shutter Priority is really more appropriate anyway.

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

Rather than an E-7 can I have an E-1 with the E-5 sensor. If Olympus can cram in the E-3/5 viewfinder at the same time so much the better. Only a handful of people would buy one but I'd buy two.

Re: What do you want Oly to release at Photokina?

Just realised what would be very useful-spot metering that follows the face recognition box.
Would have been useful at a Jason Isbell gig last night.

Except you can always fix your spot metering (AEL set with Spot Metering) in a number situations like that & keep shooting at that exposure.
