It's been a while...Still in China

Hi,

I have a bit more time recently, so took the trusty E-M5 MK1 out for a spin. The MK2 is, regrettably, back at Olympus for a second-time failed on/off switch.

I was experimenting with Nisi's 10-stop ND. Using the 12-40 f2.8 pro lens, I struggled to get long exposures with the sun still visible, even at f20, so I added an ND8. So, the evening went ND10+ND8, ND10 only, ND 8 only.

Camera was OM-D E-M5 Mk1, with 9-18mm, 12-40mm f2.8 pro, and one shot with the 40-150mm f2.8 pro. Using extender rings to go from 52mm-72mm filter, and 62mm-72mm, there was evidence of vignetting.

No adjustments except a touch on highlights/vignetting and cropping.

(From using f20, I now know I have dust on my lens, thankfully not visible at f9., which I rarely ever use.)

Always good to see your images from the other side of the world, David, some excellent results for out edification, too.

Sometime you might like to try this at f2.8. I did with the 14-54mm f2.8 MK1 to try and clarify the lights, at night, on the London Wheel, and was amazed by the results. I focused about 10 yards in front and then composed the image. Upon checking later, I found the focus of that lens was an incredible 540 mtrs, the shutter speed 1/15th. Just a bit of fun that worked.

Thanks for the tip. I plan to go back and cover the amusement park and the ever colour-changing Cultural and Expo centre. This was just trying to smooth the lake water. My first attempt, and I can see it's going to take practice to get right; like anything worth doing!

David.
