M.Zuiko 12-50mm dead?

A friend has brought over his 12-50 which he told me is 'dead'. After agreeing with him that it is not working at all on his E-M10, mounting it on my Pen F and switching on produced the same result! The camera comes on but there is no picture in the viewfinder and the zoom and focusing do not operate. Any ideas please?

Thanks

John

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the lens with alcohol?

Yes, I tried isopropyl alcohol but still as dead as a dodo.

Has anybody else had trouble with this lens?

Have you checked the little hole on the mount that the locking pin goes into? If the pin doesn't fit all the way into the hole the camera will assume you are attempting to change the lens and will switch off the electrical connections. If the pin is out you should get an image of some sort on the screen.

Cheers,

Ralph

That's true & the slightest burr & dirt can prevent the pin from locking in properly. Any time the release button/pin is pressed it blanks out the display & this sounds similar.

I would also check all screws on the back of the lens in case any are preventing the lens from rotating fully to the home position.

Re: M.Zuiko 12-50mm dead?

The lock pin hole is clean and doesn't look to have any burrs on it. The lens locks in position OK.

It turns out that the lens is still under warranty so it is going back to the seller.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

John
