Re: Leaked - EM5 mklll

A nice camera for sure, but more of a facelift than an upgrade?

Re: Leaked - EM5 mklll

It does look like it has upgrades

The good news: Olympus has updated a few key specs and features and made the camera more portable while they were at it. The bad news: the quest for portability might lead to a more plastic-y build-quality.

According to the Amazon UK leak and the latest round of specs, the main update to the OM-D E-M5 Mark III will be an upgrade to the EM-1 Mark II’s 20.4MP Micro Four Thirds image sensor with 121 on-sensor cross-type phase detect AF points, a “re-engineered” 5-axis IBIS system, a new OLED EVF with the same 2.36M-dot resolution, and a more lightweight design (only 414g vs 469g with SD Card and Battery) that still boasts “a tropical, frost and water resistant housing for outdoor shooting in harsh conditions.”

In short, the leaked Amazon product page described the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark III as a camera with “many of the E-M1 Mark II’s premium features, all with optimal portability.”

Seems in my clumsy attempt at copying and pasting into the link box I left in the original HTTP, Ian thank you for amending I’ve also edited the original post to avoid any future confusion.

Re: Leaked - EM5 mklll

At least this looks to be an answer to all those people complaining that Oly had abandoned its roots by not producing small cameras any more. It remains to be seen what they'll say about the cost, of course.

I don't think it was ever realistic to expect a sensor upgrade over the M1ii, but it is surely a shame they didn't produce it 6+ months ago.

How well it CAFs will be interesting. If it was roughly as good as the M1ii for large, nearby targets I might be interested in getting one at some stage for low-impact street photography and travel. I'd need to trade in my Fuji against it and perhaps also my GM5, and even if I did that I'd probably need to wait until one came up s/h.

Re: Leaked - EM5 mklll

"Full specs" leaked apparently.

USB charging is nice - as is Phase Detect and Contrast Detect - nothing much else jumps at me.

The real announcement and the E-PL10 are expected tomorrow (17th October 2019).

Re: Leaked - EM5 mklll

Yes, usb charging is another advantage for a compact travel camera.
