Common Tern Fishing

A Common Tern fishing at Strumpshaw Fen the other day. In the sixth shot it is completely submerged, apart from the wing tips. It must take a huge amount of strength to haul itself out of the water and fly off again, hopefully with a fish.

E-M1 II, 300mm f4 and MC-14.

Re: Common Tern Fishing

Perhaps they are like corks, and bob rapidly to the surface after diving ?

Re: Common Tern Fishing

Thanks Phill. Yes I am quite pleased with them, although I think I need to work on my processing. My colours always look a bit muddy and muted and not clean and vibrant like other shots which I see.

Re: Common Tern Fishing

Cracking set Ron, not easy birds to capture in flight.

How are you processing your images?

Thanks Dave. I am using Affinity Photo and, while the photos look quite good in viewed in that application, when I upload them to the Gallery on this site the colours are often disappointing. I had Lightroom 5 before but had to stop using that when it wouldn't support raw files for E-M1 II.

Have you tried using the Adobe DNG converter Ron?

This would then allow you to edit your images in Lightroom 5.

It may be worth opening a free Flickr account to see how your images look when uploaded there, if they look good there you could link them when you post them here.

Re: Common Tern Fishing

Stunning images Ron. You make me wonder whether I should be writing to Father Christmas for the 300!
