At the end of the day

Doing the dutiful today of a bit of simple gardening at my partner's mother.
Maybe not much to capture but if you have the camera you can do something.
I liked the pastel tints.

2 hours later going up the A1, I was sure there was something out there, a faint haze in the north. Found a suitable place near Cockburnspath to stop and this is the view north. The furthest right streetlight haze is Dundee 50 miles away.

Er.... not quite. I used another torch, from my world famous collection, to light the wall. But the sky is the result of coronal mass ejection from the sun. nothing like having an enormous nuclear reaction on your side.

Not sure how you did it - but the second shot is very nice. First in fine as well.

Re: At the end of the day

We don't get the Northern Lights down here in the south. I guess that's why they call them the "Northern" Lights! Great capture, and you didn't even need to go to Norway!

Re: At the end of the day

That second well considered shot is no less than miraculous, I bet you were justifiably chuffed when you downloaded that to your computer and saw what you had, Duncan. I know that I would have been.

Re: At the end of the day

Nicely balanced lighting however you did it and a fabulous shot of the aurora. Something I've always wanted to see in person, maybe one day. Thanks for posting.

Re: At the end of the day

Duncan, I just saw several shots of the aurora on the BBC Breakfast show and none of then was as good as yours. You should send yours in to them to show on TV.

You can do! On the Aurora Watch site they used to have a gallery of images, at least one was from Folkstone (you can't get much further South than that!). I can't find the image now as they've altered the site to host images on Flickr.
