Anyone used a Panasonic FZ28/FZ40/FZ100?

Trying to convince a friend to buy Olympus but he's looking for an 'all in one' bridge type camera and I recalled looking at this range from Panasonic a few months back.

Has anyone any experience of them and are they a good choice for a general shooter?

Anything comparatively priced which might be better for him? He likes the long zoom and EVF + LCD. Can't think of a comparable Olympus model.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Anyone used a Panasonic FZ28/FZ40/FZ100?

I've not used one but have seen some nice results from the FZ40. I've just ordered a Fuji HS20 EXR (30 X zoom) for my wife & of course I'll need to test it now & again to check on its functions to be able to help her get used to it. Somehow I think it might get borrowed now & again.

Re: Anyone used a Panasonic FZ28/FZ40/FZ100?

Hi, yes I have used the fz28 and the fz38, they are excellent cameras. I believe the fz38 has a bit better reputation for image quality than the fz100, my experience was brilliant with both the 28 and 38 in fact my daughter still has the 38. I only sold mine to fund my e410 I have just bought. If I could have afforded to keep it, I would have done, but I wanted a dslr again so it had to go. If you go onto imaging-resource.com and look at their comparison images you can put in these models and see them up against others in their class, that's what decided me. If your friend can pick up a used fz38 I think he would be happy with that. If/ when funds allow, I would probably pick up another used one as a back up, hope this helps.

Re: Anyone used a Panasonic FZ28/FZ40/FZ100?

I've owned, sold and bought again an FZ38 and think ( for especially) it's one of the best cameras I've used. Everything from macro to superzoom plus video in a light compact body. I agree with Jacqui it tends to have better write ups than the FZ45 and FZ100 - the cameralabs reviews on all these models I thought were very good and informative.
I actually took the FZ38, G2+14-140 and e510+14-42 out the other day and IMHO it was very difficult to say which produced the better results.

I agree, recently I have tried several dslr's and sent them back because I just couldn't seem to get much improvement or even as good as the fz38, everything just seemed soft, although now I have the e410 and I am happy with it, I think the great zuiko lenses make the big difference, compared to other manufacturers kit lenses they are excellent! even so, if you want an all in one, I don't think you can go wrong with fz38.
