Untroubled water...

...the Thames, between Windsor and Maidenhead

Brunel's widest single sounding arch apparently

Re: Untroubled water...

These shot bring back some memories as I worked in Maidenhead and Wooburn Green for a few years. I remeber walking from the sounding arches towards Windsor many times. The swan is nice but would have looked better if it had not been in the shadow. Cheers

Re: Untroubled water...

Yes, the Swans were gathered under a tree that was providing them with dappled shade and I was obsessing about getting the symmetry shot with one swan going one way and one going the other. I could have been there all day to get one with the sunlight on their faces, lack of commitment on my part

You may remember looking back, through the sounding arches on your walks and seeing the other Maidenhead bridge...

Yes I remeber the bridge as when I 1st work there I rented on Ray Mead road.
Just the other side of the bridge.

Re: Untroubled water...

I remember falling in the Thames when I was a kid, at Maidenhead Lock .
If memory serves me right the lock has a pub or restaurant? at the side of it, which I provided great entertainment

Re: Untroubled water...

You must mean Boulters Lock which is 300 yards upstream from the Bridge.

Yes, there's always been some kind of pub/restaurant there, but there is a fabulous restuarant/bar there now as a result of a significant re-development costing millions.

It is definitely a pressure point though given the number of people who stand by the lock watching the boats come in and out, I had my own river boat for a couple of years and that lock was always first of the day, the stress of getting that lock right in front of an audience always got us off to a great start

Yes that right, as on the one side you have the pub & on the otherside of the lock you have the road & pavement, so people watching the lock from all directions
