Nice grab. I've escaped the UK for a couple of weeks (business trip to Paris) so have largely avoided Trump news. Once Boris ascends the Iron Throne, and that trade deal is in place, I'll probably have to turn vegetarian to avoid American produced meat.

I doubt you'd feel much better about how the UK chicken industry works either.

Re: The Invasion Has Started.

And goodbye NHS and "free" healthcare when the trade deal is unrefusable cause we are so desperate. Just at the point when we will need it as the cases of salmonella spike!

Re: The Invasion Has Started.

All this talk of the NHS and whether it's up for grabs in a US trade deal makes me smile. I understand that May had to whisper in Trump's ear the meaning of the acronym "NHS" so it's clear that Trump really has no plan or strategy to take over our NHS (if indeed he has a plan for anything!). And in any case, whatever trade deal is done, the NHS will be run as the government decides it should be run. That already includes a significant amount of outsourcing and purchasing and I see no reason why a new trade deal would not have an impact on that. Healthcare is a huge part of any Western country's economy so why wouldn't it be in some way a factor?

If keeping the NHS as a mainly tax-payer-funded service that is free at the point of use is important for you, then you'd be best advised to look to left-leaning, EU-friendly parties since both the Tories and Farage's lot would sell it off quicker than you can say "no deal"!

Probably not but I can at least buy free range chicken from the local butcher thereby avoiding the worst of it, and EU standards of animal welfare and hygiene are somewhat higher than those in the US.

Precisely, thereby hurting the least well off portion of the population who are already struggling. Yet they're probably the ones most likely to vote for Farage because their newspapers tell them to ...

Do we really need to corrupt Foto Fair by turning what is a great grab shot by the OP............. into another Yankee bashing political discussion ?

Well, given the subject matter it was bound to attract these sort of comments, but you are absolutely right - this is Foto Fair (not the lounge!) and I think we should take your advice.

Yes, agreed. It's definitely a great documentary photo! The sort that can spark discussion!

Re: The Invasion Has Started.

Apart from the chicken and the forecast chaos on the roads leading into Portsmouth on Wednesday am (see earlier post) we set off very early to get to the port in time to get the ferry, allowing two hours to travel the 10 miles so as to get the dock in time.

We got there in about 15 minutes - less traffic than on a Christmas Day. one small bonus we saw the heavily policed enclosure where all the celebs did their thing from the ferry, but we missed the air display.

I wonder if Trump proudly wore his 'Bone-Spurs with Bar' medal at the 'D' day memorial ceremony?

SOY STORY AT A GLANCE
The majority of soy's health claims are false; fostered by clever marketing to further reduce the cost and nutritional content of your food
Ninety-four percent of all soy grown in the US is genetically engineered (GE), which virtually guarantees you're consuming GE soy when purchasing soy products and processed foods containing soy derivatives. Genetically engineered foods pose its own separate health risks, including hormone disruption and fertility problems
Soy derivatives can "hide" under a variety of different names, including mono-diglyceride, soya, soja, yuba, TSF (textured soy flour), TSP (textured soy protein), TVP (textured vegetable protein), lecithin, and MSG
Soy protein isolate can be found in protein bars, meal replacement shakes, bottled fruit drinks, soups and sauces, meat analogs, baked goods, breakfast cereals and dietary supplements. This hazardous ingredient has been linked to several troubling conditions, including diminished libido and erectile dysfunction
The only soy foods with health benefits are USDA certified 100% organic, traditionally fermented soy products such as tempeh, miso and natto

It seem I must have eaten more of it than I realized!
