Thank you John. That is a relief.

Missed the background to overnight closure but glad whatever it was has been resolved.
Any chance of an early heads up about the upcoming changes Ian?

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Thank you for the comment. I retrospectively agree with you Dave about this site not just being a photo site.
As a summary I'd pay a subscription if my user experience was better. I don't want to knock what this site stands for, there is a wealth of knowledge here but it's more how I interact with it and its presentation. I know this is huge a labour of love but most business have to evolve to draw people in, I’m not here to stop a good thing, my favourite newspapers, art centres and web sites all go through a refresh. Now whether you go for commercial gain is another case.

When I do get to the photos I'm sorry to say I find the site a bit clunky and cluttered and that's why I don't come on here much. You are right, I have not participated much here but that’s my choice. I've been looking around at other forums and they are much alike, many are just text and don't really appeal to me. I've seen only a few other sites that invite you in, navigate through interesting looking pages with the text based forum elsewhere. So I acknowledge that any change will be a challenge.
Even Photocrowd can be too much to take in for different reasons.

I post many images and discussions mainly to various Olympus Facebook groups, just suits me better. I have no idea but could associated apps work to help a more mobile audience?

I entered that contest just to see how it worked. I’ll finish with August as it was an interesting process despite the workflow. It took ages to actually figure how to load an image using over 9 menu commands. To see the pics of the day you have to go into every post. Visually there are so many little icons in posts. I was surprised that out of over 2500 viewers for July only 39 voted, so I’m not the only one not participating. (that could be bots pushing the figure up). I wish the site well. Regards

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Good to see you still around Tim. I've been dropping in here for ages now but that was the first competition I'd actually got round to posting in I'm sorry to say. So to get a second place was quite a surprise and a huge complement. I'll be interested to see what the site changes will be, hopefully slicker but retaining the friendly informative feel. Quite a challenge to achieve a good balance I'd say so I don't envy Ian.

Hi Peter - there is a Donation button near the top left of the home page - http://e-group.uk.net

Many thanks!

Ian,

I do not know why, but I cannot get the Donate button to work. There is a £ sign in the middle and 0.00 with a flashing cursor beside it. I can't type any numbers there...

Perhaps you can help me get in there, or if you send me the e-mail address for Write Technology Ltd, I can do it from my PayPal account.

Thanks

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Peter - I've had trouble with that box too, on other sites as well as this one. Just start typing the amount you want to donate and it will enter itself in the box. It is counter-intuitive but it should work. Don't try to move the cursor or delete the amount showing, that won't work!

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

When I got into my Paypal account with the email address that Ian sent me, I had the same problem. Then, as Otto said, I just started typing, and in it went.

Ever educational this forum!

Re: The reality is that the e-group needs your help

Perhaps we need to discuss enhancements in another thread but my 2p worth is I would very much like to see more images in one place at once?

If the threads posted since my last visit could be scraped for images and put into a multi image gallery page similar to the Flickr entry page I'd be very happy.
I sometimes miss interesting images and often repeatedly view ones that aren't that interesting to me because they appear in the "New Posts" search I do when I visit only to see two "Nice picture" comments

My primary images sharing is on Flickr and then I sometimes share a subset of those in threads here and on other photography forum sites.
On Flickr you get Favourites but seldom any discussion. Here you get a lot of discussion but not as much about images and technique as I would like to see.

I've been a bit lazy sharing here recently though, must go through and post some since I last posted in the sharing forum

This is an excellent idea. The changes being made will certainly accommodate something like this. However, I have been fairly clear that it doesn't look like we can continue much longer with the current gallery, though images there will not disappear.

Sure - to be honest I investigated the current gallery and decided I was happier sharing using the BBCode from Flickr. That means I have what I share online in one spot and link through elsewhere rather than uploading to multiple sites.
Another site I use had their own gallery which was used for file attachments, in a relaunch the gallery disappeared along with all the images I'd attached to threads there!
