"offical" starting senior school shots

The twins are starting senior on Friday .

Took advantage of the dry weather and decided to take some "official" starting senior school pictures for the grandparents. As this is the first time I have taken portraits a bit of C&C would be appreciated as I want to get these right.

This should work on private albums as the first image is a screen shot in a private album.

Click on the share button chose your size you want to post at and highlight the text then copy it then paste it int the message board here..like so.

Re: "offical" starting senior school shots

I'm sure the grandparents will be very pleased with those.

Firstly, I would find a different, less busy background in the garden, without the fence and houses (and what looks like a bit of litter in two of them! )

Secondly, focus on the eyes. This means that in two-person shots you need to have them both in the same focal plane more or less.

Thirdly, a little fill flash wouldn't go amiss to get rid of the shadows and add some sparkle to the eyes.

And to echo Zuiko, how on earth do you tell them apart? I bet they have some fun fooling people...

Hope this helps.

Telling them apart is easy (after nearly 12 years).

They have never done the swapping thing - think they know how much trouble they will get into once they get found out.

Bilbo,

The background was one of the things I didn't like - Mrs suggestion was against a brick wall (yulk). Gonna be tough to find somewhere less busy - may even have to take a run to the park or something. Garden is a right old mismatch - legacy of previous owners, need to get it sorted really.

Next time I'll focus on the eyes and use a flash like you suggest and use the natural light a bit better.

Re: "offical" starting senior school shots

Marty those are two pretty girls, I'm glad I don't have to tell them apart.

Now as to the portraits, the light while overcast and diffused is still coming from directly above and not directional, this leads to what I call panda eye syndrome and result in the eyes not being at there best.

And as said by others the background is to distracting, this could be fixed in post processing but it's better to start with trying to improve your portrait technique.

This tutorial I wrote for this forum may help you.
