ISO/WB settings display during change

Just noticed that if I use the front/rear dials to modify ISO and WB, the way this is displayed is different in PASM and Cx modes. In PASM modes, the individual, larger dialogue pops up as you spin the wheels. In Cx modes, the values are changed in situ (which I prefer).

I'm not sure whether or not some other setting is influencing this, but haven't spotted anything obvious in the manual. Any one got any thoughts? I'd like to be able to use the in situ method all the time, if possible.

Thanks.
