That sounds slightly kinky! OK, I understand what you mean, but I'll have to have the cash for it before I spend that amount somehow.

I want that 300/4. I wonder that % price difference would be if it was a 300/2.8 which is what i was hoping for, that extra bit of speed and crepuscular capability for BIFs would have been handy.

About 4-500%? Use a higher ISO for your crepuscular activities instead

Great word.

Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

Nice to hear the news on the new lenses, they certainly set Olympus up to have a complete set of micro 4/3 lenses.

1) Pro versions of the holly trinity of zooms: wide angle zoom, std zoom and telephoto zoom

2) Fast prime lens set

3) An exotic super telephoto lens

Is it true that the 40-150mm f/2.8 is not due to be released until late 2014? That's a long time to wait with the Panasonic lens already available.

According to Olympus (http://www.olympus-global.com/en/new...0212zuikoe.jsp) the lenses will not be launched until 2016 ("after 2015"). Where did you get 2015 from?

The same statement says from 2015 onward - I think something got lost in translation. My understanding is that they will be available some time next year.

It also confirms the 40-150 f/2.8 will be available in the second half of this year.

35-100 is quite a different proposition to 40-150, methinks.

We could do with a 50-200 and even something going to 400.

I just wish Olympus were a bit quicker with their lens releases. I might not be around to see them, lol!

I might not be around to afford them but I still take an avid interest in how the system is developing. Despite the frustration of waiting for these lenses we already have the most comprehensive mirrorless system.

That sounds about right to me.

Now that is something that would really interest me! The 50-200 wouldn't need to be a constant f2.8 to satisfy me, just great quality (like the 4/3's SWD version).

Re: Two additional Olympus M.ZUIKO PRO lenses to launch in 2015

On the birding site which I use someone has posted a link to a patent application for an Olympus 1.4x teleconverter. If it is true, it should make a nice companion to the 300mm f/4.

I posted this up a few weeks ago. Good news indeed, and something else we will have to wait for. LoL.

Perhaps a Pro quality x1.4Teleconverter for the 40-150 & 300 would fill these slots for many folk - though I suspect that given mFT's smaller flange distance it would be difficult to design?
(Apologies to Ron - didn't see your post before replying to Ian.)

I don't understand why Olympus can't simply re-engineer an mFT version of the existing 50-200 product by elongating the back of the lens body to include the extra 25mm spacing and updating the AF drive motor + servo f/w to make it optimal for CDAF? This should give a much shorter/cheaper design cycle than re-arranging the optics. After all for users wanting this IQ , miniaturising such a lens probably isn't the prime requirement.

if size doesn't matter then that lens already exists, not much point in duplicating it with the marketing around the PDAF capability of the E-M1 - for a huge number of people size really has become a prime requirement (assuming IQ is solid).

it will be fascinating to see exactly where the 40-150 sits IQ wise relative to the 50-200; generally the 12-40 seems to sit closer to the 12-60 than the 14-35 but there are wider price point issues with a standard zoom - time will tell.
