Re: E-5 Raw files

Hi David.

I hope you don't mind me asking.I see on your list of equipment that you own. that you have a Leica 14mm-150mm Lens. This is for use on your E-5 Olympus I take it. I have Olympus lenses , 14-54mm & 70-200mm Both F-2.8. How do you find the Leica lens works with the E-5. As I am looking for another lens to compliment my kit. I don't think Olympus make a lens of that size . I would find it most useful. For taking Candid shots. the 70-200 is rather big and bulky for that type of work.
Regards
Alf.

Alf

The Leica is the lens I always wanted and it works superbly with both the E5 and E30. Focus is very fast and silent and I haven't needed to apply any AF adjust. Of course it isn't the brightest lens but there is nothing brighter available with this focal range, although this meant that it was MF only using the EC20, but gives full and accurate AF with the EC14. Good for macro too as it focuses down to 50cm even at full zoom and with an EX 25 you can still manual focus with the front element touching the subject (tested with a laptop screen). The build quality is superb as you would expect and it is actually smaller and lighter than the 12-60mm!

I suppose the only cons. are the fact that it has a switchable in-lens IS and an aperture ring (plus auto) both of which are of no use with the E5 and obviously add to it's not inconsiderate cost - I got mine used off Ebay for 800 and I wouldn't part with it ever!

Hope this helps

Regards

David

Olympus does have the 18-180 (38-360 equiv). It's compact and performs well, but it doesn't go as wide as the Leica 14-150 and the Leica is actually an outstanding performer, if significantly more expensive.

However my understanding of Adobe products is only sufficient enough to avoid investing in their upgrade treadmill.

Hope you dont mind me jumping in, my experience of adobe product support is not good, I was an early adopter of Creative Suite 2 on the mac, I had it six months and upgraded my OS (mac), thereafter it never worked well and support from adobe was in the form of pay for an upgrade, so I agree with your treadmill analogy, I got LR4 as a freebie so no complaints there and I use alongside aperture, the NIK suite and perfect effects4, all except Adobe have given me free upgrades and gifts, and excellent after sales support. Still smarting over the biggest waste of money called CS2

Re: E-5 Raw files

I'm surprised that no-one has suggested that this E5 user installs the software supplied by Olympus on the CD which came with the camera? If He/she hasn't got this, it can also be uploaded from Olympus's website.
