Re: Olympus Air A01

It is something I considered for travel and carrying without the need for a bulkier unit.

There are two on ebay at the moment. The 14-42 EZ lens is a good candidate to fit for general use

YES that's very much what I was envisaging, but you've done a very impressive and much more professional job than I could ever manage!
I had not heard of Fotosnaiper and think it unlikely I can get one here.
I have been contemplating converting a small crossbow, like this one and learning how to design and 3D print parts to fit it together, OTOH I might just end up printing the whole thing as I may want it to fold up more compact.

In another thread here I was reading about Olympus auto focus tracker on new cameras and I suppose with digital technology cameras will diversify for specific purposes than was ever possible with film.

..................
It's normally spelt as Photosniper on English speaking websites and Ebay
Try THIS SEARCH but there's none listed on ebay.au at the moment.

Oly Air + Oly 45mm f/1.8 on the beach at sun rise this morning.
1/4s exposure at ISO 800, so there is a little bit of motion blur and noise to be expected.

Re: Olympus Air A01

Rawtherapee Digital Camera Profile.
The colors from raw images were all coming out very bland, yet the jpeg from the camera looks fine

The "matched curve" raw image:

See how the default "Camera Standard" color management of Rawtherapee was obviously not right for the Oly Air.
There wasn't a digital camera profile for the Olympus Air but choosing color management of Olympus XZ-1 seems to produce more reasonable results on the color but then there seems to be less contrast on the cliff face. I will have to look into it further, but maybe other Olympus camera owners have suggestions?

I'd imagine the RAWs would be like the PEN series.

Re: Olympus Air A01

I find that no one profile suits all. A lot depends on the subject and I usually find I have to do some tweaking to make the image match my perception of the original scene. One advantage of digital is that I find I can still 'feel' the original scene, when I make the adjustments later the same day.

I think that there's less contrast overall on the last image, not just on the cliff face.

Try pumping up the 'vibrance' in the first image.

Re: Olympus Air A01

RAW is just a starting point. It's not as easy as using a camera JPEG but you potentially get better end-results. It's a mistake to just expect RAWs to be better by default without any work added.

Remember, camera JPEGs started life inside the camera as RAW data.

I think the focus is out more than there being motion blur. The dog's hind quarters are in focus rather than its head.

Does the app let you tap the focus point on the screen?

It seems to me that there's more to worry about with the image than colour balance and contrast. It seem very soft to me. Maybe as your set-up seems to be very light, that it's camera shake.

Are you able to put the original raw in a 'cloud account' so some of the experts here (not me, though I'll have a go!) can have a go at it?

Jim

Indeed, the pictures are in general not as sharp as I expected. The camera was on a Manfrotto tripod as low and stable as it would go, being operated by wifi and there was just a light breeze so no real reason there would be camera shake. It could be that I'm not using it right, OTOH both the lens and the camera are second hand so there may be a defect I'm not aware of.

If anyone does want to have a look, I have put the ORF file here: https://angelica.x10host.com/public/PA062015.ORF

It does focus on where I touch and I'm pretty sure I touched on Lucy's (the dog) head, yet judging by the focus on the sand I agree it's definitely not there. It was still quite dark and this picture is 1/4s exposure f/1.8 with ISO-800. Perhaps the camera struggles to do it's auto-focus thing in poor light?
