Tyntesfield moments

We rented a cottage on the National Trust Tyntesfield estate for a week.

What a nice experience! It's such a pleasure to roam the grounds when all the common people have gone home:

Time for a quick roll up behind the garden wall.

Re: Tyntesfield moments

Great photo's Pete. I was only there a couple of months ago but only in a common person capacity

Lovely place that I'd never visited before even though it's close to home. Did you get to see the Victorian 'Power Shower'?

Have you looked up the history of the Gibbs family? Really interesting and rather sad IMHO.

It's always nice to enjoy somewhere without the "crowds". I had never thought about renting cottages like that.

Re: Tyntesfield moments

I should point out the picture at the top of the thread is not the cottage we rented :-)

Somewhere in the info in the house I read a phrase along the lines of "with a fortune in the bank and no business to run, he set about filling the house with the best that money could buy"

I have to say I spotted no cut corners, and I did search diligently. All the woodwork is painfully lovely. Even the door hinges are downright excellent.

The closer you look the more craftmanship there is.

Equally, the outbuildings are also full of lovely stuff:

The old sawmill:

Just some of the 60,000 individual artefacts the NT inherited when they bought the place about 10 years ago.

Stable door catch:

Re: Tyntesfield moments

That's what I call a gardener's shed:

Further West:

The Pier at Clevedon. Nice place that. Very civilised to go for a short promenade along the front or on the pier. Try to go during the week, not at weekends from our experience.

Tintern Abbey: A great shape to set against a sky...

You often get the best light too, once the grounds have closed to the public. Was this your "cottage" Pete?

I see I was a bit premature with my "cottage" gag....

A stunning set of pictures with fascinating commentary.

It is a great place to visit, and an even better place to stay. NT Cottage prices take a jump upwards after Easter however. This was our gaff, snapped at sunset.

Re: Tyntesfield moments

Yes, the family was deeply into Guano..

Here's something I had to snap in passing.

I also had to snap this as well. It proved very difficult, took a while to get focus, exposure, composition just right and resulted in domestic comments at the time. :-)

Re: Tyntesfield moments

PS. I pawed at the windows of London Camera Exchange while we were in Bath. Hmm. A used E-M5 just like mine for 249 - so I assume my little wonder is worth next to nothing now. There goes my plan for trade in and upgrade :-)

Stuff goes out of date so quickly these days.
