Re: Going Nowhere...........

It intrigues me that tides can have so much impact on areas like this.

I think the UK has one of the highest tidal ranges in the world Ross.

People regularly get caught out by how quickly the tide comes in here, often ending in tragedy.

Re: Going Nowhere...........

Yes, in the Bristol Channel we have a 14 metre tidal range at the Bristol end, about a 10 metre range in Swansea on the big Spring tides. 2nd biggest in the world, 2nd to Canadian Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick....

Burry Port, in the picture, has silted up very badly since the marina was built. I actually did the hydro survey some 10-15 years ago when they were building it. Problem is always the tidal gate at the entrance to the harbour. The silt always builds up to that, and they have never dredged it since it was built...

The silt seems like a problem but the tidal movement sounds like an opportunity for tidal power generation, however that tidal difference is rather large. There are locations around the top of Australia that can be similar, but not sure how much though.

You have hit it on the head Ross. We have a tidal power scheme ready and waiting for finance in Swansea. A £billion project that will generate electricity for the next 125 years with minimal maintenance. But our stupid politicians won't fund it...…………...

Also we have had a Severn Barrage (River Severn) on the books for at least 50 years, but again it has complications, not least money...……..

Re: Going Nowhere...........

That is a lovely, tranquil scene Mark. Despite being completely the opposite side of Britain, it has a remarkably similar feel to Wells harbour near me.
