First Day in Melbourne

We stepped off the train into 38C heat.
Fortunately our hotel is adjacent to Southern Cross Station where we took refuge in our penthouse overlooking Collins and Spencer Streets.

Above: Southern Cross taken at 6:00AM this morning. (not as good as last year's shot taken from the next door apartment)

Passing by some brave young faces we snacked at Southbank beside the Yarra.

The ubiquitous sparrow taking leftovers

Carried in a neat pouch on the hip is "the best camera is the one you have with you", the fabled XZ-1

Obviously I forgot to leave the laptop at home !

Great pix, Mark, the weather looks perfect, if a tad on the warm side!

You are staying pretty close to the base we had when in Melbourne - we were at the Radisson on Flagstaff Gardens and we were fascinated by the nightly visitors to the gardens - the possums!

Regards,
Ann1e

Re: First Day in Melbourne

Yes Cathrine, I am enjoying the XZ-1, the most useful camera since the C-5050 0f 2002 which also had a fast super bright F/1.8 lens. I carry it always in a neat pouch on the hip together with my Galaxy S2 phone ... an awesome combo !

Woops! Annie, I didn't notice your thread below Cathrine's until submitting. Yes Annie. I remember you telling me last time we stayed here. I said I would take a pic of the Raddison for you but did not get by there. Unfortunately Janette had a slight fall this morning in the apartment, bruised her knee and skinned her nose. I am a little worried that when I take her to the dining room for breakfast, I will attract hostile glares from other guests (especially the women) thinking, "abusive brute ! ! !"

Mark you are a photographic conveyor-belt of quality
Nice images yet again, they have a dynamic appeal and certainly convey the feeling of urban heat
Keep them coming

Re: First Day in Melbourne

That's an extravagant compliment, Huw. In a vain effort to live up to it I felt compelled to edit Nos 2, 5 by correcting verticals in 2. and selectively adding brightness / contrast to 5.

Much appreciated.

It's a beautiful city at many levels, Stephen. As we wandered about town today people were so friendly and helpful.
