New printer

Looking for a new printer, the second one in 5 weeks. Had a canon for about 6 years worked great but eventually it died. Thought I would try an Epson which I had for about 2 weeks but it was leaving small marks and lines on the prints.
I googled this and its called pizza cutter lines ... apparently a common problem.
I took it back to the shop where they sent it away, it was returned today minus the mains cable and damaged on the front, and it was a different serial number.
So if this is epsons repair procedure to replace with a used one in damaged condition they can put there printers where the "sun don't shine".
Got my money back.
So the question is which one next. It must have a wifi connection and preferably a front loader, that was one of the plus point for the epson. Its only used for home printing so A4 size is ok unless someone is making A3 printers at a great price.
Any suggestions ?

Re: New printer

we got rid of Epson because of the multi inks
now have 2 x 3600 canon ; a 4000i A3 and and older 520 (for the children)

single inks may be replaced - so in summer we use a lot of blue and green but dont have to throw out a half full magenta

Re: New printer

A lot of Epson printers have single ink tanks.
We have a number of Epson 1400's which do sterling service.

Re: New printer

Canon outlet are flogging a whole load of front-loading wifi printers.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-MG41...item416c397e39

Reviews say its a bit slow, but that's all. 140 to 30-ish can't be bad.
(I get ALL my printers from there.)

Be careful of the cost of ink cartridges! Do your research well as these are the biggest cost, not the printer itself. This one has only black and one multi colour so even more expensive than 4/5 individual tanks. My Canon MX700 is still going strong after 4 years and compatibles for the four tanks are 2.50 each posted. Have a very reliable chap who does the cartridges: www.biggestdiscount.co.uk - 0800 043 4751

Remember to remove compatibles if calling for service within the warranty period! Keep the original manufacturer's cartridges to replace them with so you're not told the warranty is breached.

When we recently bought a printer for my son (off to Uni), I first phoned the above to see which make and range of printers would be best/most economical. Chose Epson in the end against my better judgement (at 35 collected from Argos I'm not too worried!) as we needed it the same day, last minute! The four cartridges are around 1.50 for this model: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st...oductId=600086

Strange about your Epson episode, but nothing surprises me!

Re: New printer

The point raised about ink costs is a valid one. Printers have almost always been sold as a loss leader with replacement ink making up for the loss... if any. I recently had to buy a new printer as the Epson decided to quit. Lightly used, but after so many head cleans it flags up an error = Epson need to repair at a price to choke a herd of elephants. Let's just say that Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask when robbing people. Insult to injury was that I pay P&P to send, and for return if I duck out because of cost.

Another option open to you is the one I took. Bought a PB wi-fi for under 30 new = use it / abuse it, bin it and buy another. Not very green of me I know, but given repair costs and cost of ink replacements... decisions have to be made.

Re: New printer

For ink I have a large a3+ Canon 9500. The ink prices have increased beyond reason and as it uses 9 I tried pixmania for some, they arrived with geman postmarks from http://www.ijtdirect.co.uk/?il=1&gcl...FSPHtAodEVAAIg, they seem to work fine and the first lot cost only 350 each as against something in the region of 14.

Re: New printer

Unbelievable, got myself the 5350 yesterday took it home and what do you know .... doesn't work.
Plugged it in and the error came up screen not closed, open and closed screen several times but still the same problem. NOT HAPPY. Two printers in 5 weeks.
Took it back today but they didn't have another one in stock. Try another shop tomorrow ....maybe I got printer karma !
