Challenge: Photograph a Police Station!

Following the absurd news that a couple were forced by police officers to delete a photograph they took of Worthing Police Station I have a strong desire to take a picture of that particular station myself.

Unfortunately it is too far away so during the next week I intend to do the next best thing: photograph my local Police Station. In fact, why don't we all do that and see how many images of different stations we can post in this thread?!

Re: Challenge: Photograph a Police Station!

We used to have a village bobby who lived in a police house and was a regular sight walking his dog around the patch. The house was sold years ago and the nearest copper is now miles away. It might be interesting to know how far forum members have to travel to get their pic.

Well, I snapped a top secret base a couple of weeks ago - at least I don't know what it does - in Shropshire! Wasn't arrested - yet!

The Special Branch only knock once - and that's with the batterring ram.

Still it's only 28 days, it'll probably rain anyway.

Re: Challenge: Photograph a Police Station!

Well, I didn't go near a police station today either. But I did encounter a couple of policemen (one was a CSO) decorating their community support Smart Car at a village fete.

But where were all the women while the men did all the work? Down at the ice cream van of course (it was a hot afternoon)!

These guys seemed quite happy to be in my pictures but I guess that this sort of event is rather different from life on the street. However it does underline that this is the type of relationship we want with our police force and I'm sure it's the type of relationship they want with us. There are still countries in the world where, if the police turned up at a fete, men would run and women and children would cower in fear.

That puts it in perspective, we're a million light years away from that scenario in our country. But there is an issue with photographer's rights and a lot of misunderstanding and confusion eminates from our politicians (no change there, then!). No wonder the police are unsure how they should react towards photographers.

It's up to us as photographers to stand firm on our rights and to correct this misinformation whenever we are confronted by it. It's in our interests and in the interests of the police who serve us.
