From Bees Knees to Bees Tongues

I liked this shot in camera, but when I got home the Bee looked as if it had a tongue Cant be? can it ? I Googled and found Bees do have tongues

Then I looked at my Butterflys from this morning and GUESS what ? Yep a tongue - not as high IQ as the Bee, but a tongue of a Butterfly nonetheless

and here is the Butterflys tongue rolled back to its mouth - sorry its not very clear, but I cannot photograph this one again, it flew up and away and a bird swallowed it

Have you captured any insect tongues out ?

Re: From Bees Knees to Bees Tongues

Often if you find a bee just sitting around not looking too well get a saucer put a blob of water in it & add a few crystals of sugar.

Put bee next to blob
They will slurp this up, recover & fly off.

(I've just realised I must have too much time on my hands )

Never thought about photographing them doing it though

Re: From Bees Knees to Bees Tongues

I got one of these for the bees in my garden - it took 2 months before they actually used it but just the day before yesterday I saw my first bee enter and leave it, proving its now in use

Re: From Bees Knees to Bees Tongues

Hi Chevvy

Well done on the Bee shot - it's really good.

Just a tip (if you do not mind me mentioning)
Try playing with AF-C and adjust your aperture size to increase dof. This should improve your chances on future images like #2 and #3.
