Common Emerald Damsel Female & Mating

I don't recall whether I knew which species I was framing but it is the only female of the species I saw. They chose to be amongst mould-covered vegetation.

Images are cropped. Not at all good images but maybe of interest.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Panasonic 100 - 400mm Leica DG Vario-Elmar at 400mm 1/30 at f9.

Re: Communal Dragonfly, Butterfly and Insect photo thread

A Darter, an Obelisk and a Conquest

This session was at the same spot where, two weeks earlier, I photographed a Ruddy Darter resting on foliage. It could be the same male. I seemed worth adding more images, showing the "obelisk" raising of the abdomen and pairing.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, f11 & f9, hand-held.

For the mating pair:

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Panasonic 100 - 400mm Leica DG Vario-Elmar at 400mm at f11.

Harold

Mark, It s Male and Female Blue Hawker aka Southern Hawker.

Emperors don't have those broad (ante humeral) yellow stripes on the thorax or the "nail" on abdomen segment 2.

Nice images.

Yes, The red of the male is paler and more patchy that in Ruddy. Female is immature.
