Greetings to everyone !

Hi,
Just made the momentous move in upgrading my EPL-1 to a new OMD EM10 and was wondering if there are any tutorials on this camera so I can learn how to use it or days out planned with other OMD EM10 owners, preferably in (west )Norfolk ?

Looking for advice and help in getting to grips with this much more complicate piece of kit !

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Hi Jim,
Thanks for posting this link, I'll look at it later after I've read through some of the manual....why do they never have printed versions now ?

Kind regards,

Ian Drury, Norfolk, UK.

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Welcome!

If you don't mind spending a bit, you can get a printed manual for just about any camera from Old Timer Cameras.

I got manuals for the EM-1 and EM-10, and found them much better than squinting at a pdf.

Re: Greetings to everyone !

...though IMO the Olympus Manual for the E-M10 is rubbish - a bit like the menu systems TBH

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Hi again,
Thanks for the replies and yes the Olympus menu interface seems too complicated compared to the better/ easier to use ones from Panasonic & Nikon ( great screen graphic icons ) that I've seen.
Being able to get a printed manual is wonderful, thanks for this Margaret, I'm going to get one !

Lastly besides the std. 'kit' lens what other lenses would be good to get, providing they are affordable...I've limited funds, like most people !

Thanks in anticipation of all responses.

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Lenes very much depend on the sort of shooting you are planning to do - wildlife/street/macro etc. ? so perhaps an idea of what you will be doing might help

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Hi Jim,
Well, mostly to do with my other hobbies.....traditional styled Hot Rods and Custom cars plus the events for these, still life, street, reportage, architecture, travel, landscapes, portraits.

I've bought an Olympus 45mm F1.8 lens already and also have a Panasonic 20mm F1.8 and a 45-175mm.

Hope this helps.
Do you use a wired remote on your E-M10 ? if so is it a genuine Olympus RM-UC1, or a 3rd party offering and more importantly how does it fit & work.

Kind regards,

Ian.

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Welcome to the forum Ian.
You can buy a release for next to nothing from EBay, any one that says it will fit the EM-5 and EM-1 and most of the E series. It fits into the USB port.
Also if you have an iPhone you can use the OIshare app and control it wirelessly. I don't know about Android phones etc.
Regards
Jim

Hi Ian,

Looks like you've got most of the bases covered already with the lens collection you already have - other than an even longer telphoto zoom - I've got the Panasonic 100-300mm which I really like and find to be nice and light with good image stabilisation as well - very easy to use handheld

Jim

Re: Greetings to everyone !

Thanks for your info Jim, was getting confused by all the 3rd party remotes and reviews on them I read, some very poor, some good, I'll go with the simplest for just focus & shoot and use the OI Share app on my phone for greater control & options.
