Re: I may have lost my mind! :D

thanks Andy, its got a nice smooth zoom action so hopefully the seals are intact.

The EC14 is my next purchase assuming no nasties arise with this lens

A couple more, through the conservatory glass on a grey day (well, it was coffee time )

I like this lens and its isn't too bad to hand hold for a short period

ISO 400 for 1/400th sec with 200mm at f3.5, smallest single point SAF + MF

ISO400 for 1/500th sec with f3.5 at 200mm fl smallest ingle point SAF + MF

both are unresized crops

Re: I may have lost my mind! :D

Brian,

I have found it useful to set up back button (AE-L) focusing when using C-AF with this lens (I have the SWD version).

When using S-AF or C-AF there can be a bit of delay while the lens gets into focus. With C-AF and a moving subject, you can lose the subject. By putting AF on a button other than the shutter button, you can initiate AF and tracking before you want to take the shot. Once initial focus is obtained, it tends to maintain focus fairly well meaning that when you press the shutter button, you don't have to wait for focus as you would in C-AF.

Of course, you may already do this!

Re: I may have lost my mind! :D

thanks Tony, I've read about "back button focus" but its not something I've been able to get my head / hands around.

My mind still works on the "this is my shutter button, I press it to take the shot" model

I'll try it out at some point (as so many seem to find it works for them) but I'm afraid I may be too set in my ways, we'll see

Using my SWD on the EM-1 at present to shoot the Shetland Folk Festival for one of the local news agencies.
see http://www.shetnews.co.uk/
Thats ISO 6400 f/4 and around 1/60s to 1/90s.
Once in the focus range works quite well
