Emirates A-380 first arrival and departure at Amsterdam IAP on 1-8-2012

On 1-8-2012 finally the first operational A-380 of Emirates touched down at the Zwanenburg runway at Amsterdam IAP (EHAM). Although early by 30 minutes and traffic on the ground was a horror. Made me miss the arrival.
Still, I was able to catch the departure at 15.30 hrs at the kaagrunway.

Beautiful shots - going out on the Singapore Airlines version of this in October. Cattle class unfortunately.

Flew on a Singapore Airlines A380 from London to Singapore and back almost 2 years ago - an amazing experience.

I am a little confused by your description; I thought Emirates had several operational A380s and they had been flying for some time?

Ian
I was also surprised by this comment - Emirates have been flying an A380 on a scheduled service to/from Manchester for well over a year.

I suspect Andre is referring to its first appearance at Schipol?

When I came back from a trip recently and we were taxi-ing after landing at Heathrow we went past 5 A380s all parked up (a couple from Qantas, an SIA one and I think two Emirates). That was one impressive site!

I believe emirates have about 30 of them, and that was just their first order. Emirates have a regular Dubai/Manchester flight....goes around 2pm.
I've been on their 777 and other Airbus planes - and the 30 number comes from their in flight mag.

You're right, Stephen. I was reffering to the A-380's first OPERATIONl appearance at Schiphol! In 2010 the A-380 made it's first appearance at Schiphol for trials to see if the runways and gates where suited for this big plane. It turned out that Schiphol had to modify some of the gates to make sure it could accommodate the A-380. They also had to modify the overpass over the A4 expressway with some 25cm of reinforced concrete and some special leak proof topping to prevent the tunnel of flooding during use while raining by this plane.
Now this is done, Emirates is the first of the airlines to use this plane on it's daily route to and from Schiphol. Next airlines are suspected to be Malaysia Airlines and China Southern.

Re: Emirates A-380 first arrival and departure at Amsterdam IAP on 1-8-2012

Stephen,
Ever seen the so called "cattle class" of the A-380?
It's like flying first class in a 747 or 777. At least some of the people who already flew with it told me.
I flew last year November with a 777ER from Schiphol via Dubai to Delhi V.V. to visit my girlfriend. I know my next flight to India will be in a...A-380 from Emirates!

Re: Emirates A-380 first arrival and departure at Amsterdam IAP on 1-8-2012

We had bulkhead economy seats so loads of leg room on our SIA A-380 and economy seats have power for laptops and iPods too Emirates may have different seats. The entertainment system is also top class (I'm sure emirates will have an excellenyt system - I last flew with them to and from Hong Kong in 2007 and it was brilliant back then). Some people complained that the seats were too hard but I didn't have a problem. The cabin is so quiet - the cabin crew actually admitted that they had be careful about gossiping because they can be heard by passengers much more easily

Anyone flown with Singapore airlines on the A380? That's who we're going with. Unfortunately (perhaps?) the leg from Singapore to Melbourne is on a 777, I think.
